Thank you for visiting our site. Our volunteer group has tried to create an opportunity for you to get to know your candidates on your terms. Our intention is to provide a positive and unbiased comparison of the candidates for your convenience in the hope of increasing voter participation and awareness.
In our last election, the difference between being on Council or not came down to just 68 votes. It is easy to fall back on "My vote doesn't make a difference", or to claim that once elected candidates will follow their own objectives. However in our democratic society, the voting process is our first and strongest opportunity to voice our opinions. The key to ensuring that our votes effectively communicate our opinions is to make the effort to get to know the candidates. To facilitate this step, we have compiled candidates' responses to multiple questions in an easy to read format that you can review on your schedule.
In the 2008 municipal election, 32% of the 61,860 registered voters list made the effort to cast their ballot. In the upcoming term, we believe our elected officials will face critical decisions that will continue to shape our community's growth over the next 15-20 years. There is no more reliable way to make sure these decisions reflect our community's vision than to engage the remaining 68% of voters to create elected bodies based on a true majority of our community's opinions.
With strong voter participation on November 19th, we believe that Nanaimo has an incredible opportunity to take shape over the coming election term. Please spread the word and use this website to encourage anyone you know to get out and elect their future!
